A pulp image of a hero pretty much like Doc Savage. I honestly don`t know where the idea of the nazi gorillas came from, because I drew this before reading Hellboy.
Well, thank you all. To answer some questions/ comments, this is the oldest piece that I have here on Deviantart. I wish I could upload a higher resolution version, but my system crashed several months after I posted it, so I would have to rescan it and recolor it. Actually, I don't like John Byrne, and I hated when he filled-in for Walter Simonson in that issue of Orion... man, Byrne's latest stuff is just awful, IMO. Have to admit his earlier stuff is pretty good, though, back when he was cleaner, his X-Men and Superman stuff are nice, but from Wonder Woman on has been...not my cup of tea. And don't worry, eternalshogunx, I don't mind if you call me Derek!
Sorry I called you Derek...I thought this was a friend of mine's...it was in his faves. I still love the art though and I give you tons of kudos! Again, sorry again for the flub!
well, well, I actually never intended the guy to be the good old Doc. I just wanted to do a really retro-looking, muscular pulp piece with all the necessary genre cliches. Though I just couldn't fit the obligatory girl, because the composition became too complicated. I have to admit, though, that he DOES look like Doc Savage. The Shadow? Maybe, who knows... oh, wait, The Shadow knows!
And don't worry, eternalshogunx, I don't mind if you call me Derek!
great piece.
it does look like professional 'comic-book' art
now, the main question is, will you draw the Shadow ?
